JIL Negros Oriental Adopts Life Development Training Blended Approach

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."1 Timothy 4:8

By: Clief Richard Burgos

On December 30, 2020, at 8:00 a.m., the Jesus Is Lord Church Negros Oriental launched the Life Development Training Blended Approach (LDTBA) led by Ptra. Mardy P. Mangunimba with the Education Department. The launching took place at the JIL Dumaguete Office, Jose Romero St., Brgy. Bagacay, Dumaguete City.  A total of 137 leaders and members attended the event. Registration started at 8:00 a.m., and the delegates complied with the health security requirements. Chedie Soriño led the delegates in praise and worship, and Mary Blanch Sumuguid opened the event. It was simultaneously broadcast online through FB Live.

The LDTBA is an educational platform made to cope with the new norm brought by the pandemic.  It delivers the Pre-Encounter, Encounter with God, Post-Encounter, and School of Ministry 1, 2 & 3 seminars through FB Groups and USB flash drives. With this, the JIL Church can provide quality Christian leadership training despite quarantine restrictions. Mary Blanch Sumoguid, the event coordinator, pointed that “the LDTBA also aims to ensure that the JIL DNA will be properly replicated to every member of JIL church.”

The 1st step of the whole LDTBA track is the Pre-Encounter. The class used a ready video presentation and began with an inspiring testimony from Sis. Lessly Corpus from JIL San Fernando. Then, Ptr. Alex Garcia, the JIL Director for National Operations, encouraged the delegates to be Faithful, Available, and Teachable (FAT) throughout the LDTBA process. For the first lesson, Ptr. Eliseo “Jun” Balquin shared the “Winner’s Plan.” Breakout group sessions soon followed. The delegates shared with their respective groups their reflection on what they learned from the first lesson. Ptra. Mardy P. Manguinimba gave her closing remarks and ended the session at 10:00 a.m. with a prayer.

The delegates were thankful and ecstatic with the event. Dianne P. Cortez, a new church member, said: “Overall, the experience was very enjoyable and inspiring as we continue our journey for our Lord Jesus Christ.” Another participant, Reji John J. Ibarra, said, “The experience was productive; I feel blessed that time,” with a joyful smile on his face. “There, I understood that my life has a purpose and that God always has a better plan,” Reji added. The same reaction goes with the others. Amid the pandemic, the event gave hope to all.

Ptra. Mardy P. Manguinimba and the JIL Negros Oriental leadership expect the LDTBA to flourish and be launched throughout Negros Oriental. This God-given initiative shall bring a massive boost for the JIL Negros Oriental until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

iCare Ministry, CIBAC Partylist - agents of compassion during pandemic

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done."Proverbs 19:17

By: Mary Blanch Sumoguid

The JIL Negros Oriental’s  iCare Ministry has been actively helping people in the province through the church members’ and other stakeholders' support. In March 2020, it expressed its generosity by giving goods to seventy-two (72) families directly affected by the implementation of the province-wide community quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the province’s enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in April 2020, this ministry, in partnership with the Citizen’s Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) party-list and Sen. Joel Villanueva, donated goods to 125 families.

Mrs. Nolime Rafols, one of the beneficiaries, was thankful for the assistance extended to their family of five, “Salamat kaayo sa iCare ministry nga nanghatag ug tabang sa mga nanginahanglan. Salamat sa tanang nagtanom ug seeds para ani nga ministeryo. In behalf of Rafols family, thank you for your physical and spiritual help to the people of the Living God. May God bless you all."

It has also extended financial aid to those JIL members who were admitted to hospitals. Among the beneficiaries were Ms. Ma. Cassandra Salvino and Ms. Sheila Marrie Sibuco.

The CIBAC party-list has also helped some Negreses by giving cash assistance, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), during the outbreak of Covid 19. The assistance benefited 42 people in July 2020 and 40 in October 2020.

The iCare Ministry is a non-profit organization of the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide. It intends “to respond to the specific needs of identified individuals in the community in obedience to God’s second commandment— 'love your neighbors.' This compassion ministry has been crossing borders to fulfill its vision, “a community transformed from destitution to fullness of life through a variety of enrichment programs” (icare.org.ph). It shows that the church preaches and lives out the word of God by showing love, compassion, and outstanding service to the lost, the least, and the last.

CIBAC Party-list, led by Cong. Eduardo “Eddie” C. Villanueva, since 1997, aims to eradicate cronyism and any form of corruption in the government. It also helps poor students to earn a bachelor's degree.  A policewoman, PCpl Manilyn Z. Barrera, was thankful in saying, "I graduated my bachelor's degree through CIBAC scholarship. Dako kaayo sya ug tabang nako financially ug na sustain jud ko hangtod ni graduate. To God be the Glory." Currently, it supports 26 scholars in the province.

Encounter God Retreats Held Amid Pandemic

“Gather to Me these consecrated people who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” - Psalm 50:5

By: Mira P. Poyaoan

The Jesus Is Lord Negros Oriental remained dynamic and unstoppable in advancing the kingdom of God as it held Encounter God Retreats (EGRs) last year. The church courageously responded to the goal of bringing more souls to the kingdom of the living God and saving more lives through a life-changing retreat despite the deadly COVID-19 outbreak that swept in 2020.

On August 21-22, 2020, 42 participants attended the first-ever new norm EGR held at the JIL Office in Bagacay, Dumaguete City.  The participants received a new direction and purpose in their lives. They came to know and encounter God intimately through a series of fundamental teachings and personal experiences they had during this event. This retreat was also broadcast live to hold a virtual EGR, facilitated by three church leaders, in the municipality of Mabinay with 12 delegates. It was an unprecedented type of EGR. God did not fail to pour out His heavy anointing even though the participants just watched the teachings through live videos and followed the instructions given virtually. The Holy Spirit's presence manifested upon each of them, thus making each one a totally brand new person whose life is fully committed to Him

The JIL Bayawan also held a two-day EGR on September 25-26, 2020, in Pagatban, Basay. Another wave of God’s miraculous power totally changed the lives of 16 people who actively participated in the said event. May it be youths or adults, God’s overwhelming presence dwelt in every individual who wholeheartedly sought the One true God.

Indeed, God’s awesome and transforming power was evident in the lives of all delegates who participated in these momentous life-changing events. Despite all the restrictions brought by the COVID-19, God freely moved through the lives of every participant. The EGRs all ended victoriously as more people received healing, breakthroughs, restoration, and salvation. They came to know and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Savior.

In this hopeless and perishing world, a personal and life-changing encounter with God becomes a great way of shedding light, hope, and life to the perishing souls. Despite the pandemic's limitations, the church persists to fulfill its mission, sending leaders to the mission fields. May God bless Jesus Is Lord Church Negros Oriental!

Fifteen JIL Negros Oriental Members Graduate from School of Leaders III

"You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you." - John 15:16

By: Glenda Dagoy

The JIL Negros Oriental rejoiced in the presence of God for the fifteen students who successfully graduated on November 29, 2020, from the School of Leaders (SOL) III (3rd Batch). The graduation led by Ptra. Mardy Manguinimba was held during the Sunday Morning Service at the JIL Dumaguete Office, Brgy. Bagacay, Dumaguete City. The graduates sang their graduation song, Ikaw and Yaman Ko, composed by Ptr. Joey Crisostomo, to motivate and inspire them and the audience in serving the Lord.

The JIL Negros Oriental has been a ministry headed by good leaders in the past two decades. This legacy has been present in the JIL family from the onset. To pass this legacy to the next generation, JIL Dumaguete adopted the School of Leaders (SOL) in 2013. Leaders teach the youth to lead and become role models of the ministry. The SOL’s primary focus is on each student's growth and fruitfulness in making disciples and maturing as a leader. When they graduate, they, in turn, take the responsibility of teaching young Christians.

The graduates were very thankful to have graduated from SOL 3 after several years of training. Manilyn Barrera, a police officer, said: “I am proud. Dako siya ug katabang. Daghan ka’ng ma learn, especially on Biblical foundations. Mapasalamaton ko sa mga passionate, anointed, ug dedicated teachers nga nag tudlo namo.” Elma Andaya also said: “Im so Blessed and grateful to God that by His grace I overcame the process along the journey . Ug isa ko nga nka graduate sa SOL. I'm so thankful to God.

Mc Hillar Tagalog was also grateful: “I thank the Lord for His goodness and His sustaining grace nga throughout my Journey from SOL I to SOL III hangtod naka graduate ko na preserve akong life. I'm thankful for the life of my teachers from SOL I to SOL III and also to the ministry for giving such a great privilege to be taught, be molded, and be guided, as I journey with the Lord Jesus Christ, by the man and woman of wisdom.”

Leonard Ravenhill, a great evangelist, once said, “A true shepherd leads the way. He does not merely point the way.” The JIL Negros Oriental extended its gratitude to the glorious SOL teachers, led by Ptra. Mardy Manguinimba, for training and empowering the graduates. The church also encouraged other members to enroll in the said program for church leadership and Christian life-long learning.

JIL Celebrates 42nd Anniversary

“May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.” - Psalms 90:17

By: Irish B. Espinosa

The Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide celebrated its 42nd anniversary led by its spiritual director, Bro. Eddie Villanueva, with the theme “Prepare for Eternity,” on October 25, 2020, at the JIL Prayer Garden, Bocaue, Bulacan.  “Preparing for eternity will be useless without genuine faith to the genuine God.” This was the notable message shared by Bro. Eddie during the anniversary. The theme, “Prepare for Eternity,” comes from the heart of God, as Bro. Eddie urged every JIL people to set eternity in every work we do.

During the celebration, the church paid tribute to the late Sis. Adoracion “Dory” Villanueva (wife of Bro Eddie) and Mayor Joni Villanueva-Tugna (daughter of Bro. Eddie), whose roles were truly significant in building the foundation of the church. A Legacy award was also given to Mayor Joni’s family to commemorate her dedication to serving the church. The church also inaugurated the new JIL Prayer Garden, where the commemorative marker was unveiled. This marker was solely dedicated to Sis. Dory as the co-founder of the JIL church worldwide.

Special greetings were aired before the event from some government officials, church leaders, and even celebrities. JIL Church was also given some commendations from the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines. Senator Joel Villanueva presented the commendation from the Senate.

The pandemic did not stop the JIL people from connecting and celebrating in one accord. Around 1,607 JIL chapters participated in this remarkable event of the year, not only here in the Philippines but also globally, physically or virtually.

As part of the celebrations, Ptr. Alex Garcia, JIL National Operations Director, organized the Leadership Empowerment 2020. The said event aimed to re-ignite the passion of the participants in serving the Lord. The JIL Executive Director and the Director for Education and Discipleship, Rev. Renato “Bobot” Bernardo, also initiated and delivered a series on “Eschatology: The Doctrine of the Last Things.”

JIL Church Dumaguete Chapter showed full support to the celebrations. JIL Negros Oriental pastors, leaders, and workers participated in the training. Tarpaulins about the celebrations were posted in Dumaguete, Bayawan, Valencia, Zamboanguita, and Mabinay. The Eschatology series was played in the church and broadcast online, to which JIL Negros Oriental watched. The celebrations ended with shouts of joy, songs of victory, and an astounding firework display.

Unprecedented events occurred in 2020. Thanks to the JIL leaders who never lost track in realizing the vision for the nation and for God’s cause. According to Ptra. Mardy Manguinimba, JIL Dumaguete Pastor: “Heavenly things are spiritually discerned, and wisdom gives us the knowledge and ability to make right choices at the opportune time.”

JIL Negros Oriental Launches iCONNECT Ministry

"Gather to me My consecrated ones, who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice." - Psalm 50:5

By: Dan Jerome Barrera

The Jesus Is Lord Church Negros Oriental launched the newly-created iConnect Ministry on November 2, 2020. This ministry improves the engagement among the JIL leaders and members amidst the pandemic. It enables the church to spread the gospel and exemplify service to the Lord for those in need despite the quarantine protocols.

Ptra. Mardy Manguinimba conceived the ministry after receiving the Lord’s instruction to gather His consecrated ones (Psalm 50:5). She tasked Bro. Dan Jerome Barrera to study how to reach out to members who were staying at home and non-members who needed spiritual enrichment. Psalm 126 encouraged him to propose a separate but complementary ministry of the church - the iConnect Ministry. It assists the offline ministries to fulfill the Great Commission.

With this ministry, discipleship becomes more exciting. It will be an additional avenue for creativity among JIL pastors, leaders, and members. However, the focus is more on encouraging and meeting the needs of members and the general public and not church marketing (2 Cor 4:5). It is not an avenue for self-promotion but an avenue to help and encourage the last, the lost, and the least.

About the ministry, Menard Bacolod, a JIL iCONNECT social media engager, said: "Iconnect ministry para sa Glory ng Lord. Naboo kini kay tungod ang social media grabe kaayo ka darkness. We need ang iConnect Ministry to spread the Gospel of Christ sa social media. Daghan tawo nag puyo sa ka ngitngit maka basa sa pulong sa Diyos through iConnect ministry."

Rosana Dingle added: "Sa simpleng pag babahagi ng iConnect, sa pagmamahal ng Poong Maykapal sa ating lahat, madaming buhay ang makukulayan na minsay nabalot ng kadiliman." Reji John Ibarra also said: "I believe that I connect ministry gives big help to me and to other people through social media, because it contributes moral values, inspirational quotes by sharing the word of God."

The ministry currently hosts the JIL Negros Oriental's FB Page, YouTube Channel, and the iConnect Newsletter blog. It sets sights to further improve the coordination among the leaders, members, and different ministries and their activities. This initiative would help the JIL Negros Oriental expand to many places in the province.
